This Modern Slavery Statement is published by House Clearance Elephant and Castle for the financial year ending 31 December 2025. It sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our own operations and throughout our supply chains.
We recognise that modern slavery is a serious crime and a grave violation of fundamental human rights. It can take many forms, including forced labour, debt bondage, child labour, domestic servitude, and human trafficking. As a responsible business operating in the house clearance and waste management sector, we are committed to ensuring that modern slavery has no place in our activities or in those of our suppliers and partners.
House Clearance Elephant and Castle operates a clear zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking. We do not accept, condone, or ignore any form of exploitation in our workforce or supply chain.
All employees, contractors, and suppliers are expected to comply with this policy and with all applicable labour and human rights laws. We aim to work only with organisations that share our commitment to ethical conduct, transparency, and respect for individuals. Where concerns arise, we will take prompt and proportionate action, which may include suspension or termination of contracts, reporting to relevant authorities, and full cooperation in any investigation.
House Clearance Elephant and Castle provides property clearance, waste removal, and associated services to residential and commercial clients. Our direct workforce is primarily based in the United Kingdom and includes operational, administrative, and management roles.
Our supply chain includes providers of transport, recycling and waste processing facilities, equipment, protective clothing, and ancillary services such as cleaning, maintenance, and temporary labour. We recognise that risks of modern slavery may be higher in lower-skilled or outsourced activities and in certain geographical areas, and we focus our due diligence efforts accordingly.
We are committed to assessing and monitoring the risk of modern slavery in our supply chain. Before engaging a new supplier, we undertake proportionate due diligence, which may include reviewing their labour practices, policies, ownership structure, and previous compliance history.
Where risk is identified, we may request additional information, require written confirmations of compliance with anti-slavery legislation, and seek evidence of relevant policies and training. For higher risk suppliers, we reserve the right to conduct audits, either announced or unannounced, to review working conditions, recruitment practices, documentation, and worker interviews where appropriate.
If a supplier fails to meet our standards or refuses reasonable access for assessment or audit, we will consider appropriate remedial steps, including working with the supplier on improvements, suspending new orders, or ending the relationship altogether.
We believe that awareness and education are essential to preventing modern slavery. Relevant employees, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment, and site operations, receive guidance on identifying indicators of modern slavery and the correct procedures for raising concerns.
We encourage anyone associated with House Clearance Elephant and Castle, including workers, suppliers, and customers, to report any suspicions or concerns about modern slavery. Concerns can be raised with a line manager, a senior manager, or directly with our designated modern slavery contact, whose details are provided internally. Reports can be made confidentially, and we will not tolerate victimisation of anyone who raises concerns in good faith.
All reports will be treated seriously, investigated promptly, and, where appropriate, escalated to relevant authorities. We will maintain appropriate records of concerns raised and the actions taken in response.
Responsibility for overseeing our approach to modern slavery sits with the senior management team of House Clearance Elephant and Castle. They are accountable for ensuring that this Statement is implemented effectively and that our controls remain appropriate for the nature and scale of our operations.
We monitor compliance with this Statement through periodic reviews of our policies, supplier assessments, and any incidents or concerns raised. Lessons learned from investigations or audits will inform improvements to our procedures, training programmes, and contractual requirements.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least once every year to ensure it remains current, effective, and aligned with legal requirements and good practice. Any significant changes to our operations or supply chains will trigger an interim review where necessary.
By continuing to operate in line with this Statement, House Clearance Elephant and Castle reaffirms its commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all relationships, and to contributing to the eradication of modern slavery and human trafficking in our industry and beyond.
